Cell Extraction/Room Removal Instructor Course

This interactive 16-hour course is designed to give students the knowledge to teach their agencies how to safely extract combative inmates/youth from a cell or confined room. Day One will consist of teaching participants the basic 8-hour cell extraction/removal course. Topics will include extraction procedures, the benefits of tactical communication, gaining voluntary compliance, identifying hazards, the importance of wearing personal protective equipment and documentation of the extraction. Time will be set aside to teach the students extraction techniques and performing scenarios to demonstrate the students’ knowledge of the techniques and procedures. Day Two will consist of the teach back method, to ensure comprehension throughout the course and to enable students to become the trainers in the future. The teach-back method further allows the instructors to evaluate and clarify the student’s communication skills and teaching abilities to promote proper techniques and critique and correct improper techniques. Students will be required to teach sections of the PowerPoint and be able to teach back cell extraction techniques and managing scenarios. Peer evaluation/critique will be used as well. This course is designed to prepare the students to teach a basic cell extraction/removal course and will standardize extraction techniques, increase professionalism and reduce agency liability.

Combat Medical Care for the Critically Injured Officer Basic Course

CMC-B is a “no nonsense” 4-hour course designed for first aid trained individuals, such as Law Enforcement, including Probation and Corrections, teachers, event staff, hunters, hikers, security personnel and private citizens. This course is adapted from modern tactical medicine as taught to our military and special operations law enforcement personnel. Concepts covered in this course include how to address immediate life-threatening injuries such as bleeding control, airway management, tourniquets, pressure dressings, occlusive dressings, wound packing; how to properly prepare your medical gear, Good Samaritan, and other legal aspects. We teach how to treat the most encountered preventable causes of death. This is NOT a typical basic first aid class. It will address specific injuries seen with penetrating and other trauma commonly encountered in catastrophic events. Attendees should be prepared to engage in practical, hands-on exercises, which will leave you far better prepared to respond and react to critical situations (wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty).

Suicide Prevention - Dealing with Mentally Ill Offenders

This engaging 8-hour class is designed to enhance awareness of how the increase of suicidal ideation and mentally ill offenders is impacting our local juvenile and adult correctional facilities. Participants will learn the history of liability and deliberate indifference when dealing with medical and mental health care. The instructor will discuss best practices for suicidal and mentally ill offenders, identify the importance of recognizing the signs and symptoms of suicidal and mentally ill offenders, and discuss the requirements of a 5150 hold. Officer’s emotional wellness after dealing with a critical illness will be discussed as well. This course is offered on two platforms, in-person training and in a live virtual format. Students enrolling in the virtual platform will experience and practice the same course content as those attending the in-person format but will be working as a student from their homes or office. This version requires students to have and use a laptop/computer with a microphone and camera.

This 8-hour course is designed to educate students on recognizing mental health symptomology, communicating with, and de-escalating situations with mentally ill offenders. The four mental health conditions covered in this training are Mood Disorders, Schizophrenia, Anxiety Disorders, and Cluster B Personality Disorders. Additionally, this class will cover use of force legal review and strategies on using force, best practices for policing mentally ill offenders, and de-escalation techniques. 5150 holds, documentation, and crime scene vs clean-up will be discussed as well.

Critical Incident Management in Corrections for Supervisors & Managers

This 24-hour course is designed to prepare the Senior Corrections Officer, Supervisor or Manager in a Juvenile Hall or County Jail to be an effective leader at a Critical Incident. The course is designed to provide a comprehensive review of current tactics, with an emphasis on the use of a four-step Critical Incident Response Plan that will be developed in class. The student will be exposed to case studies and will participate in multiple tabletop exercises that will allow them to apply the Critical Incident Response Plan to a variety of critical incidents in a Corrections setting. Contraband and Evidence – How to Find It & Process It

This 8-hour course will cover the definitions of contraband vs evidence, and how they may differ. The need for proper documentation including digital video, still photography, diagrams, and documentation through a crime scene log and reports will be discussed. It will identify how to use universal safety precautions when handling contraband and evidence, along with how to confiscate different types of contraband or evidence. It will cover steps to preserve and process a crime scene, and any evidence that may be present. It will discuss potentially dangerous situations that can occur when dealing with contraband and evidence. We will also discuss different types of contraband and evidence including weapons, drugs, drug paraphernalia, cell phones, tattoo kits, and how they can come into a facility through mail and contact personal or professional visits. Discussion of how drugs and weapons can be made while in custody will also be covered. Reducing or eliminating types of contraband or evidence can save time in manpower, and potentially lives of the youth, inmates, and staff. Officer safety will be a priority in this course.

Failing to Intervene - Criminal Actions

This 8-hour course is designed for correctional and probation officers who need to understand their legal and ethical responsibilities to intervene when witnessing colleagues engaging in illegal acts. It is critical for maintaining integrity, legality, and safety within correctional facilities.

JCO to PO Transfer Academy

This 72-hour course is the entry level course that meets the minimum standards to transfer from a Juvenile Correctional Officer to a Probation Officer as prescribed by the STC division of the Board of State and Community Corrections.

Report Writing & Courtroom Testimony

This litigation based 8-hour course is designed for the officer and supervisor in adult corrections, juvenile corrections, or field probation services. It will teach the fundamentals of report writing from correct grammar, sentence structure, spelling, punctuation, and the proper chronological construction of a report. Proofreading techniques will be discussed. It will also include the three-phase method of the interview process. The student will learn what the legal aspects are and how to write reports from a liability aspect, including Courtroom Testimony. Students will also participate in practical exercises related to Report Writing and Courtroom Testimony. The class is interactive and presented in an enlightening way that has caused it to be one of our highest rated courses.

Emotional Survival and Financial Responsibility

Learn how to prepare for retirement and your emotional well-being! This 8-hour course is two dimensional as it covers Emotional Survival and personal Financial Stability for officers. The two topics are separate in themselves; however, they are also tied together as will be discussed in this course. True personal wealth is an emotional stability issue as well as a financial stability issue. We will identify signs and symptoms of emotional distress for the officer including organizational stress, define signs of secondary and vicarious trauma as it relates to staff, and identify appropriate responses to a critical incident to ensure staff emotional health is addressed. It will also include the use of agency peer counseling, Employer Assistance Programs (EAP), and health benefits (insurance plan). The second dimension of the course covers financial stability for officers. Investing wisely through financial advisors or as an individual, creating a healthy and efficient personal budget, along with developing a savings plan for retirement will be discussed. Trusts and wills, homesteading, and different types of insurance policies are also included. What are the examples of financial stability? The most common signs include having little to no debt, being able to make and stick to a budget, having a healthy amount of money in savings, and having a good credit score. Financially stable people tend to see their net worth increase year over year. Through personal discipline this course will show how to do this, and how to be well prepared for retirement.

Tactical Communications

With the advent of cameras, transcripts and social media law enforcement actions are more public than ever before. The ability to de-escalate a situation before it becomes violent has far reaching, positive outcomes for the officer as an individual, the agency for liability purposes, and the public/inmate population as a matter of trust and respect. This 8-hour course provides techniques to stay calm and professional under verbal assault and to generate voluntary compliance from even the most difficult people. Hostage Survival

This 8-hour course covers hostage survival techniques, how to avoid being taken hostage, and what to do if taken hostage. It will also cover what to do during a forced rescue and what action can be taken by the hostage to get help for themselves after such a stressful event. Several hostage case studies will be reviewed.

Leadership Skills and Team Building for Supervisors & Lead Officers

This 8-hour course is designed to educate corrections managers, supervisors and lead officers with different leadership styles, practical leadership applications, and practical team building exercises. Leaders come from all different positions. Corrections managers, supervisors or lead officers within a probation or corrections agency are the leaders of that agency. This course is designed to show these critical staff members how to assess their current and future role as a leader in their organization. We will discuss the difference between leadership and management and discuss the current state of leadership within our agencies. This course will examine a prominent law enforcement case study on the failure of leadership. High Risk Transportation

This highly interactive 8-hour course provides participants with the knowledge, skills and ability necessary to successfully plan and execute inmate transportation. Participants will review case law regarding inmate transportation, be able to identify potential liability during transport, and develop the objectives of inmate transportation. In addition to detailed discussion of escort tactics and formations, participants will learn tactics for dealing with combative inmates and how to handle inmate illness and escape attempts. Ambush response and tactics will be addressed. A portion of time will be set aside for scenario-based training. Scenarios will include escort tactics inside a secured and unsecured facility, inmate escape, and dealing with potential problems with civilians and inmates.

Adult Correctional Officer Academy

This 187-hour course is the entry level course that meets the minimum standards for Adult Correctional Officer as prescribed by the STC division of Board of the State and Community Corrections.

Cell Extraction/Room Removal Course

Combat Medical Care for the Critically Injured Officer Advanced Course

CMC-A is a 4-hour course and an extension of the CMC-B Basic Course. The Basic Course is a pre-requisite to this course. This highly interactive course can also be presented in conjunction with the Basic Course. Combat Medical Care for the Injured Officer – Advanced delves into the need to have specific types of medical support and readiness required by law enforcement personnel such as reviewing the proper use and familiarity of trauma kits, Having Quality of Life (QOL) Over the Counter (OTC) medicines for protracted law enforcement events available. Participants will be introduced to mission medical briefs for their agency to include medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) vs. Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC), designated drivers, place holders, routes, staging of equipment and ambulance standby, as well as determining Casualty Collection Points (CCP), hospital contacts, direct hospital communication, closest hospitals, and trauma levels. Participants will be shown and participate in basic pistol retention, and introduced to tactical group movement both advancing and repositioning with an injured victim. There will be course discussion on predetermined fallback areas when things go bad such as allied agency facilities, what to do with altered officer weapons and treating altered victims. In groups participants will prepare their tactical medical briefs and instruct the rest of the class on their plan just prior to participating in several training scenarios.

What's Your Price?  Offender Manipulation

What’s your price?” is an 8-hour course designed to educate institution staff on the inmate manipulation process. This course highlights more than just the shame of being manipulated by inmates or youth, it describes the repercussions of an officer’s decision in breaking the law. Several Case Studies will be discussed detailing staff repercussions including prison sentences, loss of employment, civil rights violations, dissolution of marriages, and loss of family. Additionally, the far-reaching consequences of staff misconduct to innocent civilians will also be examined. This course will discuss how to recognize manipulation, the process of manipulation, short-term/long-term manipulation, and how to avoid the psychological trap. The purpose of the act was to “provide for the analysis of the incidence and effects of prison rape in Federal, State, and local institutions and to provide information, resources, recommendations, and funding. This 8-hour course will provide information regarding the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). This course is designed to give law enforcement personnel training to enhance their professional careers. This course is offered on two platforms, in-person training and in a live virtual format. Students enrolling in the virtual platform will experience and practice the same course content as those attending the in-person format but will work as students from their home or office. Field Training Officer (FTO)

This engaging 24-hour course is designed for officers who supervise, and train new officers assigned to the custodial Field Training Officer Program also known as JTO, DTO, CTO, etc. This course will teach the student how to be expert teachers and will allow them to return to their agency with not only the skills to evaluate, but to teach and mentor their agency's new officers. Students will discuss policies and procedures and the legalities regarding the use of force.
